I used to teach pre-kindergarten and kindergarten so it is great to be able to combine my classroom experience and understanding of scientific principles to ensure all products we sell are THE VERY BEST. Before selecting something that will be included in the Hatch Early Learning catalog, each product is evaluated for its educational value and many other criteria. Every potential product goes through a hefty review process.
Before a product is slated for a spot in our catalog, I must say YES to each of the following questions:
- Is the product FUNDAMENTALLY good for children?
- Is the product SAFE for the age groups that it is marketed to?
- Does the product engage multiple senses in a way this is not overwhelming (products should not be too loud, too colorful, too busy)?
- Is the product, or the company that has released the product award-winning (from reliable & well-known organizations)?
- Is the product developmentally & age appropriate for the age group it is marketed to?
- Does the product uphold national & state standards?
- Is the product reflective of national accrediting sources (NAEYC, NECPA, ECERS & ITERS, etc.)?
- Is the product durable enough for constant classroom use?
- Is the product worthy of valuable dollars?
- Does the product serve multiple purposes and interests?
- Is the product supported by research?
- Is the product inclusive of diversity; both genders and cultural?
- Is the product aesthetically pleasing (in regards to its respective age group)?
- If the product requires assembly, is the assembly process easy-to-follow and to complete?
These guidelines help me understand whether the product in question will align with the goals that Hatch Early Learning strives to meet– providing children with innovative & enriching experiences that ensure success for kindergarten readiness and beyond. I hope you find these steps helpful as you evaluate early learning toys and supplies for your classrooms and/or children!
